Dunbar and New Town got wins on Friday afternoon to advance to Saturday’s 1A state championship.

Dunbar 86  Pocomoke 68

Dunbar led from wire to wire in the first of two 1A semi-finals.  The poets got a lot of different players extended playing time and put five players in double figures.  They were led by Donte Pretlow’s 22 points, eight rebounds, seven assists, and four steals.  Evan Singletary double doubled with 13 points and 12 rebounds.  He also had seven assists. Pocomoke was led by Shawn Johnson Jr. who scored a game high 26 points.

New Town 75  Smithburg 72

Smithburg led for much of this game but New Town came back behind their full court press and walked away with a 75-72 victory in the second of two 1A semi-finals.  New Town put four players in double figures and forced 21 Smithburg turnovers.  New Town was led by Danny Shand’s 17 points.  Smithburg was led by Jordan Fortson and Trenton Springs who scored 23 and 20 respectively.  With the victory New Town advances to play defending 1A state champs Dunbar at 1PM in the first of four state championships at the Comcast Center on Saturday.
