Bowie came out the gates strong, jumping out to a 14-7 lead in the first quarter behind their tough defense and being able to hit wide-open shots. However, in the second period, Eleanor Roosevelt would rally behind some defense of their own. Their defensive pressure created some fast break opportunities, which would eventually help give them the lead heading into the break. In the second half, both teams would trade baskets. Eleanor Roosevelt’s senior forward Jaylin Payne would assert his dominance down low and senior guard James Rice simply did it all–he defended the best player all game, found his teammates for open shots, and hit some timely shots for his team. Bowie, led by senior guard Jacob Morgan, made the game interesting all the way down to the wire. Morgan scored 15 of his game-high 19 points in the second half, including a couple of deep threes. In the end, ER was able to knock down their free throws and get stops when needed on the defensive end to capture Maryland 4A South Regional title.
