Patterson Breezes by City on Senior Night
On senior night the Patterson Clippers honored four seniors, then went out and coasted to a 67-58 victory over City.
City led the game early, as Patterson was missing layup after layup, but the Clippers would correct things and extended their full court press in the second quarter, where they used a 20-3 run to take a lead that they would never relinquish.
Senior Gary Blackston went off for 27 points and 11 rebounds and did just about everything (except miss his only dunk) for the Clippers in his final regular season game in his loan season as a Clipper.
Sophomore Koran Moore, who has established himself as one of the perennial bigs in Baltimore City in his first year at Patterson scored 12 points, grabbed 11 boards, and blocked 7 shots.
Senior Dereck Oliver Jr., the loan current Clipper who played when Aquille Carr donned Clipper Blue was looking to distribute on senior night and that he did. He tallied 10 assists to go along with 6 points. Oliver now has 310 career assists in his four years on the Varsity for the Kane street school. Oliver has started every game for Patterson in his sophomore, junior, and senior seasons.
Patterson has clinched the #1 seed in their region in the 2A North and assuming they win, they will host every home game before reaching Comcast. That includes a potential 2A North regional championship, where in years past, sometimes games of that magnitude are moved to bigger venues. It may be looking ahead, but a Patterson, Largo 2A championship at 6PM on Saturday, March 14th would be quite a good one. But before that, Patterson will play Lake Clifton at Hill Field House on the Morgan State Campus this Saturday at 8:15PM for the Baltimore City championship.
