Paul VI Comes From Behind on #1 DeMatha in Regular Season Finale

With DeMatha up nine and 4:16 to go versus Paul VI, Stag fans thought they were on the way in to the post season with a little momentum after dropping their first conference game of the season on friday to McNamara.

But host Paul VI had different ideas and put together a 15-3 run to close the game and split the regular season series with the top team in the DMV.  DeMatha junior sniper Nate Darling got a good look as time expired to tie the game but his shot didn’t drop and PVI had the victory secured.

The game, which was played during a snow storm had a good crowd, but wasn’t sold out as many PVI games are, and the VI man crowd wasn’t in full force like they so often are.

PVI got a very balanced attack.  Junior VJ King led the team in scoring with 16.  Frank Howard added 15 including what would prove to be the game winning bucket.  Junior Corey Manigault added 15 and 10.

DeMatha was led once again by junior sensation Markelle Fultz, who after the game Paul VI head coach Glenn Farello called worthy of being named WCAC player of the year. Fultz scored a game high 17.  Senior Terrell Allen added 10, while sophomore DJ Harvey scored nine. No other Stag scored more then three points.

With both teams regular seasons complete, the Stags will enter the WCAC playoffs with the #1 seed while Paul VI will have the #3 seed.
