B-CC Downs Whitman In Front of Raucous Crowd
B-CC and Whitman squared off at 5:30pm on Tuesday evening from Bethesda. Seems like a normal statement. But if you know the backstory, you know why this game was moved from 7pm to 5:30.
A few years ago after these arch-rivals squared off there was massive tomfoolery in the parking lot, which lead to jawing, and bad blood was reborn between the two Bethesda schools.
Both schools administrations agreed that moving forward, when ever these two schools met again, it would never be a 7pm affair. The game would always be moved to 5:30, or even earlier, as was the case a couple years ago when a playoff game between these two that was moved from 7PM friday to noon Saturday.
Today’s game proved that the decision made a few years ago was a smart one, because tempers flared late in the game and when B-CC rushed the court after the Barons pulled away a 61-54 victory, Whitman wasn’t happy about it, aborting the hand-shaking line, because of unsafe conditions to beeline for the locker room.
Onto the game … B-CC led for much of this game but a late Whitman run spear-headed by Shaq Dibote-Lobe’s 17 fourth quarter points made things real interesting, but it was too little too late.
Baron senior Justin Carter has a sensational game. He hit a couple deep threes, his mid range game was on all game and he played with that even keel that he’s shown all year. Carter finished with 20 points. Ivan Tores and Kevin Holston added 14 each.
With the win B-CC sweeps the season series versus Whitman. If the two meet again it will be in the 4A West regional playoffs …. and it won’t be at 7PM.
