DeMatha Completes Regular Season Sweep Over Gonzaga

DeMatha came out of the gates on Wednesday on a mission.  Two days after defeating Gonzaga 66-61 in a close game that saw many lead changes, this game in Hyattsville was never in question.

DeMatha used pressure defense in the first quarter to force numerous turnovers that led to transition buckets and the Stags built a 26-10 lead after one quarter.  Throughout the rest of the first half DeMatha played all but four players and got contributions from various sources.

The usual suspects led the way for DeMatha. Markelle Fultz scored 18, DJ Harvey 17, and Terrell Allen 9.  One of DeMatha’s bright spots was senior Jaelin Grant who played a tremendous defensive game, hounding Gonzaga star Sam Miller.  Grant blocked and altered many of Miller’s shots, and scored eight points on the offensive side.

Gonzaga failed to put any players in double figures.  They did play a strong second half, playing DeMatha even, 32-32.  Gonzaga shot 10-25 from the free throw line in the game.  A lot of their younger players got extended minutes in the second half and had good showings.  Bryant Crawford and Chris Lykes scored nine each and Myles Dread and Sam Miller each scored eight.
