St. John’s Continues To Roll, Hands DeMatha its Second Loss of Season

St. John’s and DeMatha may have their best teams concurrently since the Chris Wright, Austin Freeman days, circa 2006-2007.  While Paul VI seems to be the team to beat in the WCAC, St. John’s and DeMatha are certainly capable of winning a WCAC crown this year and with both teams ranked top 6 in the Washington Post.  It wouldn’t shock many to see these two play again deep in the WCAC tournament.

But before any of that speculation, the two have a pair of regular season games that are sure to be highly competitive and bring out large crowds.  The first of those two was on Thursday night in NW Washington. St. Johns was virtually unstoppable.  On both sides of the court they brought it.  In transition, the half court set, and especially on defense, they were certainly on their A-game. The Cadets put all five starters in double figures as Mike Morsell led the way with 17.

Terrell Allen led DeMatha with 16 while Joe Hampton added 11.

Up next for DeMatha is arch-rival Gonzaga in a game to be played at American University on Saturday at 7pm.

St. John’s is in the midst of their toughest stretch of the season.  After DeMatha they travel to O’connell, host Gonzaga, and then play at Paul VI.

St. John’s will close their regular season out at DeMatha on February 19th.
