Q Smith Makes Big Debut as Potomac Wins a Wild One Versus Crossland
A week ago, Quadree Smith was manning the paint for Paul VI, a top 10 national power. Tonight the big man said he felt like he was “at home” as his Potomac Wolverines won an up-tempo battle at Crossland High School that saw the two teams trade leads for much of the game.
Potomac, who was already one of the favorites to win the Maryland 3A State championship, certainly bolstered their line-up with Smith, who had verbally committed to play for UNC-Greensboro. Smith has since re-opended his recruitment. What is factual is that Smith has been playing in one of the best leagues in the country, alongside some of the best players in the country for the last couple years. And with that experience, a seasoned leader comes to a Potomac team who already has arguably the best back court in the state.
Potomac now has four offensive options, two on the block, and two on the perimeter. University of Maryland bound Dion Wiley was tonight’s leading scorer with 28. Randall Broddie added 22. 6’6″ junior Anthony Smith added 17 and Q Smith double-doubled, scoring 13 in his debut. On the other side, former Princeton Day standout Brandon Better led the way with 20 points. Darius Speaks played a phenomenal game with 20 points and 14 boards, including a dunk of the year candidate.
