St. John’s Advances to WCAC Championship With 56-44 Win Over Ireton

It didn’t have the allure that O’Connell vs PVI had but it had two teams coming off of their most exhilarating wins of their respective seasons.

Ireton had done what no other team in the WCAC had done in 18 attempts this season, defeated #1 seed Gonzaga, pulled the improbable 8/1 upset.  And St. John’s was riding high after defeating DeMatha on a buzzer-beater half court shot, their second buzzer-beater to defeat the Stags this season.

So with the winner in line to advance to the 2013 WCAC championship the stakes were high.  Ireton came out where they left off yesterday.  They led for most of the first quarter and a half.  They didn’t allow St. John’s to hit a single 3-ball in that span, something the Cadets do at a torrid pace this season.

But as the game progressed St. John’s began to pull away, and in due time, put an end to Ireton’s magical run.

When it was all said and done the Cadets walked away 56-44 victors.  Tre Campbell and Darian Bryant led the Cadets with 15 and 13.

Ireton did hold St. John’s to a season low three 3-pointers on the evening, which is quite an accomplishment in itself.  Ireton was led by Daniel Noe and Taylor McHugh who scored 11 and 10 respectively.

St. John’s advances to Tuesday night’s WCAC championship where they will meet the #2 seed O’Connell at 8:30 at Bender Arena.
