Theodore Roosevelt Gets Desperation 3-ball to Win and Put Exclamation Point on DMV Elite Holiday Classic
In the final game of an 11 game slate that covered two day at Trinity University Theodore Roosevelt senior Michael Warren hit a crazy 30 foot 3-pointer just as time expired to give the DCIAA school a three point victory over Princeton Day.
DMV Elite’s Marcus Helton, who was among the group who the put the tournament on had this to say “The event went well as we were able to showcase a variety of teams and players. And we saved the best for last — you couldn’t have asked for a better way to finish the weekend off.” The final game was a wild one. Princeton Day started the game with only five uniformed players in the building as a handful of players got stuck in traffic. But when the fire-power that carry’s PDA showed up in the second quarter it was game on.
Anton Waters, a PDA senior who transferred from Forest Park in Baltimore is making a serious name for himself. He has been an offensive rebounding machine so far this season and on almost every night the 6’6″ combo forward is giving up a few inches to his opponents. But he’s gotten the better of almost every opponent he’s faced this year; high accolades considering he’s been going against big men on teams such as Huntington Prep and Riverdale Baptist. Waters has also cashed in on 15-20 monster dunks so far this year.
PDA had a very balanced attack on Sunday evening. They were led by junior guard Brandon Better with 19. Emmanual Omogbo put in 18 and Aquille Carr scored 16. Anton Waters double-doubled with 12-10. All four should play D-1 ball.
Roosevelt who improved to 4-0 was led by former DeMatha guard Johnny Shuler who scored 21. But it was senior Mike Warren who will be remembered for this game as he went for 18 including four triples. His final shot may be the shot of the year to date in the DMV (but Eleanor Roosevelt may have something to say about that).
