It was the first tournament of the year for D.C. Assault and it was certainly a success. It wasn't the toughest competition they'll face this summer but it's always good to get that first championship of the summer. Watch the DC Assault 17U Gold top 10 plays of the weekend.
D.C. Assault won convincingly in the 17U Gold bracket, winning by double figures over team Philly in Sunday's championship. DC Assault defeated Cecil Kirk of Baltimore in the semi-finals. In the other semi-final Virginia Assault led Team Philly by 27 points and Team Philly had a comeback for the ages. They ended up winning with a tip-in in the sudden death double over-time.
Next up for DC Assault is Pittsburg next weekend. Some consider Pit the toughest tournament of the summer.
Many players stood out in DCA's championship run this weekend. Nate Britt was setting teammates up all weekend and was the catalyst. Damonte Dodd was a beast all weekend, and got a ton of big time dunks that can be seen in his weekend highlight tape. Obinna Oleka had a couple big time dunks as well that can be seen on his weekend highlight tape. Roddy Peters and Nigel Johnson played very well, each splitting time between the two guard positions. Kris Jenkins continued to be the player that he was all year with Gonzaga. Nothing too flashy, but very dependable, and always making the smart play.
